A cruise ship broke free from its dock and floated off as a storm battered it.

Jessica Kinville watched out of her window in Juneau, Alaska, USA, on June 16 as a sunny afternoon suddenly gave way to hail and winds up to 60mph.

Amazing footage showed the Celebrity Edge cruise ship break free from its lines and float through the waters.

The ship that weighs more than 146,000 tons drifted loose before the crew was able to fire up its engines and stabilise the ship.

Jessica said: “I have never seen anything like this before. I started seeing the white caps moving up the channel and called my wife, who was downstairs, also watching out the window.

“We watched together as the cruise ship started to move and it looked like one of the lines snapped.

“I was in absolute amazement. I would say the ship was loose for a good couple hours.

“We watched a tug boat out there trying to help them get back to the dock for a while before I had to go to the store.”
