Three Cambodians were injured in a brutal assault by their countrymen at a workers' camp in Thailand.

A gang of disgruntled Cambodian builders armed with knives and axes allegedly descended on the settlement in Pattaya to attack their colleagues on Tuesday.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows people screaming as the bloody fight broke out near a residential area, where the workers were seen charging on the streets.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a report from terrified residents at 9:30 pm. They found a battered worker Saran Chhon, 25, screaming in agony as he nursed a deep cut on his left arm, leaving him covered in blood.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Two other men suffered minor injuries on their legs and hands, and declined to be taken to the hospital.

Police Colonel Sarawut Nuchanart, superintendent of the Bang Lamung District Police Station, said: ‘We dispatched investigators to find evidence and trace the group of workers who are causing problems in Thailand.'

Witnesses said the alleged attackers were recently fired from the camp, and have since been causing fights. They urged local authorities to arrest the violent thugs.

The clash cames as thousands of Cambodian workers fled Thailand amid rising political tensions over a border dispute.

Cambodian Senate President Samdech Hun Sen had called on his countrymen to return to Cambodia 'before the Thai authorities could expel and insult them'.

However, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said there was no directive for Thailand to deport Cambodian workers.

Tensions between the two countries have intensified following a deadly clash between their troops in a disputed area of Ubon Ratchathani, on May 28.

The skirmish killed a Cambodian sergeant. Thailand said it was committed to resolving the dispute conflict through bilateral means, while Cambodia has vowed to bring the case before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Thailand and Cambodia have a fractious history. The Khmer Empire once stretched across much of Southeast Asia before the ancient leaders moved their base south to Phnom Penh in the 16th century amid water shortages.

Thai tribes used it as a chance to encroach and claim much of the deserted land, including priceless sandstone temples and artefacts.

In the 1970s, Thailand supported the Khmer Rouge while they carried out one of the world's worst ever genocides. The country then provided sanctuary for the group's murderous leaders, even allegedly stealing aid funds that were intended to rebuild Cambodia.
