A teenage boy has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a driver whilst using his scooter to cross a zebra crossing on Windmill Lane in the Castlecroft area of Wolverhampton on Wednesday 18 June morning.

West Midlands Police closed the road for several hours next to The Firs pub.

The non-electric scooter was wedged under the drivers side front wheel with the skirting slightly dislodged.

Locals reported several teachers were on scene to help the lad before emergency services arrived and that it happened just before the lollipop man's shift had started.

Inside the red Ford Fiesta, the drivers sun visor was down and a mobile phone holder was attached to the windscreen.

West Midlands Ambulance sent an ambulance and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic attended the scene.

A spokesman for the service said: ‘We were called to a road traffic collision on Windmill Lane at 8.20am this morning, one ambulance and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic attended the scene.

‘On arrival we discovered a car that had been involved with a collision with a manual scooter.

‘We treated a teenage male for serious but non life-threatening injuries before he was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment.’
