A resident shows how to make do and mend - turning her broken fridge into a state-of-the-art appliance with a 'detachable door'.

Footage shows Ella Mae Capillano in the kitchen appearing to swing the green refrigerator's door open - only to completely remove it from the hinges.

She casually leaned it against the dining table and grabbed a plastic container from inside.

Ella then reattached the door and closed it like nothing had happened, making it look perfectly functional again at her home in Batangas, the Philippines on June 14.

She said: ‘It has a detachable door. I bet no other families have it. This is state-of-the-art.'

Make Do and Mend was a British wartime slogan to encourage people to reuse and repair their clothes and household items, so that resources could be directed at the effort to defeat Germany and Japan.
