Nine South American women were rescued from a horrifying sex trafficking ring in Spain.

The Guardia Civil conducted 'Operation Bildalketa', freeing the victims who had been forced into prostitution in Barakaldo and Castro Urdiales.

Officials said the law enforcement action led to the arrest of seven individuals and the investigation of three others, all allegedly involved in human trafficking, public health violations, and membership in a criminal organisation.

The women - five from Colombia and four from Bolivia, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Spain - reportedly endured inhumane conditions. They were housed in cramped, unsanitary rooms with bunk beds and kept under constant camera surveillance.

A married couple and their children are believed to have orchestrated the operation, exploiting the women around the clock.

The investigation began in 2024 after a tip-off from an NGO. Authorities said one victim was smuggled into Spain via Greece and moved between multiple locations in Bizkaia, Cantabria, and Almeria.

In May, police raided three properties, seizing over 20,000 EUR, seven mobile phones, a laptop, doses of alleged cocaine, and sildenafil tablets. They also recovered documents detailing the 'services' offered by the victims.

The rescued women are now receiving care and support as they recover from their ordeal.
