Multiple areas across southwest China's Chongqing municipality experienced widespread heavy rain on Wednesday night, triggering floods and disrupting traffic in townships of Pengshui Miao-Tujia Autonomous County. Footage captured in Gaoqiao Village of Taiyuan Town showed that the streets there were completely submerged, with parked vehicles swept away by the rushing waters. Ditang Town, one of the worst-hit areas in the county, recorded a precipitation of more than 304 millimeters from Wednesday night to Thursday, with the water level of rivers far exceeding the danger mark. The floods also caused slope failures in multiple road sectors across the county, disrupting traffic. Local authorities have mobilized emergency teams to carry out rescue and disaster relief efforts.
