Police find explosives in car pulled over in the Philippines
Police found explosives inside a car stopped for a routine traffic violation in the Philippines.
The SUV was pulled over by the Highway Patrol Group in Paranaque City on Friday, June 13, due to unauthorised use of a blinker and missing a rear licence plate.
Footage shows emergency responders inspecting the vehicle, which was halted on Filipinas Avenue at around 1:40 pm.
Authorities seized a Glock 19 pistol, three bulletproof vests, deadly weapons, suspected C4 explosives, and other suspicious items.
The driver reportedly failed to present the Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration. Two individuals were arrested.
Police Brigadier General Eleazar Matta, Director of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, said: 'Why was he in possession of C4 explosives and three bulletproof vests - was he preparing for a confrontation? It appears he was ready. The case remains under investigation.'
Another SUV, believed to be carrying four suspects and acting as backup, reportedly escaped.
Ambassador Markus Lacanilao, Special Envoy on Transnational Crime, revealed that one of the suspects escaped a previous entrapment operation last year, which led to the arrest of three others involved in extortion using the name of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos.
The suspect was posing as a Cabinet undersecretary and driving with a fake licence plate.
Authorities also said the group might be connected to more serious crimes such as land-grabbing and transnational activities.
The two arrested individuals face charges including unlawful possession of firearms and explosives, possession of prohibited weapons, resistance to authority, concealment of identity, use of unauthorised blinkers, and obstruction of justice.
