Daughter's one act saved her dad's life when she found him having a stroke
A daughter saved her dad's life after she found him having a stroke when took him his lunch at work.
Dean Hollowood, 55, was blue-lighted to hospital after his daughter Brooklynn, 21, found him slumped over the driving wheel in the yard of the Leicester body shop he owned.
He was told he had suffered a stem stroke, and he spent three months in hospital recovering.
But after a round of a round of physiotherapy left him too dizzy to continue, he is now paralysed and struggling with memory loss and falls.
Brooklynn, from Leicester, said: "He said he felt a bit dizzy, so I went to get his water out of the fridge and as I came back his left eye had gone all the way into the side of his head."
"I've never seen that before. I genuinely didn't know what it was."
"I rang my mum, and she's got this sheer panic in her voice. She's saying ring an ambulance, ring an ambulance and I said why? She said he's having a stroke."
"It was a very, very scary day. It has scarred me for life."
"I was just in the area, so I thought I'd go and take him lunch. And I ended up saving his life."
According to Healthline, Dean was one of 10 to 15% of stroke patients who suffered a rarer and more dangerous stem stroke on April 24.
Ambulance crew arrived as Dean lost all movement in one side and began to projectile vomit. Doctors said his blood pressure was so high that if Brooklynn hadn't found him, he would have had a heart attack and died.
Dean spent three months in hospital and began to learn to walk again but deteriorated again after a round of physiotherapy left him too dizzy to continue.
Now, Dean is paralysed and is cared for by wife Adele Hollowood, 51.
Adele said: "Physios said it will get worse before it gets better but at no stage did, we know it was going to affect him like this."
Dean struggles to get around without aid, meaning he is homebound. Dean also struggles with memory loss and falls - a recent one of which left his whole tummy purple.
Brooklynn said: "It's heart-breaking. I'm losing my dad in front of my eyes and my mum is losing her husband in front of her eyes. It's like grieving for someone that's still here."
"He was my idol. He was a proper workaholic. He worked so, so hard. He had been at his body shop since he left school. He drove a nice car, spoilt me to bits as a kid, the same with my mum."
"It was hard for him because he lost everything: his business, his car, everything he worked for. He was a bubbly happy funny guy and now he's just a shell." "
Brooklynn is now raising money to fund a private neurologist and buy her dad a new wheelchair so he can get around more easily.
She said: "The reason I am doing it is so I can make the short time left of his life a little bit better." "
