This is the dramatic moment Thai soldiers reopened the border with Cambodia to save a critically ill Cambodian woman fighting for her life.

The Royal Thai Marine Task Force opened the checkpoint in Chanthaburi following an urgent request from Cambodian authorities to rush Yang Tach, 67, to a Thai hospital on June 20.

Local hospitals had been unable to treat the woman suffering sepsis due to lack of staff and medical equipment.

The Thai-Cambodian coordination unit sent the request to their superiors, who immediately approved the emergency cross-border transfer on humanitarian grounds.

Footage showed the severely ill patient being wheeled across the border bridge, where she was picked up by a Thai medical team with full emergency equipment.

She was taken to the Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi, where medics in the country - which has some of the best hospitals in Asia - began treating the severe blood infection.

The border gate was closed after the hand-off.

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia escalated after a clash between troops from both countries in a disputed area in Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani, on May 28, resulting in the death of a Cambodian sergeant.

Thailand expressed its intention to resolve the dispute through existing bilateral mechanisms.

However, Cambodia vowed to take the case before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and current Prime Minister Hun Manet claimed that the disputed area belongs to Cambodia.

But Thailand maintained that the area is a no-man's land within an un-demarcated zone.
