US, Los Angeles: West Los Angeles LAPD Officer Down On 405 Freeway Crash Site Part 3
Los Angeles, United States - June 23, 2025 06/23/2025 03:00 am GMT-0700 WEST LOS ANGELES, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A traffic collision involving three vehicles occurred early Monday morning on the southbound lanes of Interstate 405 near Wilshire Boulevard. The incident was reported around 1:58 a.m. and blocked the high-occupancy vehicle lane, prompting a significant response from emergency services. Initial reports indicated that one of the vehicles, a silver truck, was facing west and obstructing traffic. By 2:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched, and the first responders arrived on the scene to assess the situation. One of the patients was reported to be trapped inside a vehicle, while two others required extrication. As the incident unfolded, the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed three total patients, stating that two individuals were transported with minor injuries, and the third patient was still trapped at 2:25 a.m. Fire crews requested a helicopter transport to Westwood UCLA Hospital, contingent upon the helipad’s availability. To manage the situation, a Sig Alert was issued at 2:22 a.m., indicating the freeway had been shut down to facilitate emergency response. The closure extended from Sunset Boulevard as crews worked to extricate the patients and clear the wreckage. Traffic on the northbound side was also impacted, leading to requests for a hard closure to ensure safety during the operation. The area was expected to remain congested for some time as cleanup efforts continued. LAFD can be seen doing CPR in the back of LAFD ambulance 37 on what is believed to be the LAPD officer. Four vehicles can be seen crashed in the HOV and number 1 lanes of the south 405 Freeway in KNN footage from the scene. Three of the vehicles appear to be civilian vehicles and one is an LAPD patrol car. It appears the officer stumbled across the scene of a traffic collision on the south lanes just north of Sunset. The officer stopped to assist with the collision when he and his patrol car were struck.
