Major Fire Erupts at Manchester’s Historic Hotspur Press, Prompting Station Evacuation and Travel Disruptions

The video shared by Owen After All (@owenm_w) captures a major fire engulfing the historic Hotspur Press building in Manchester on June 23, 2025. Intense flames and thick smoke can be seen pouring from the derelict structure, prompting swift evacuations of nearby Oxford Road station and causing significant disruption to train services, which remained affected until at least 8 PM.
The Hotspur Press, a well-known industrial landmark purchased by MCR Property Group in 2015 for £2.5 million, has long been a part of Manchester's urban identity. Although it had fallen into disuse, the site carried potential redevelopment plans that might have included either demolition or partial preservation of its historic façade.
The rapid escalation of the fire raises serious concerns about fire safety and emergency preparedness in densely built city centres, where such incidents can quickly endanger critical infrastructure and public safety.
