Airport runway shut after military plane’s nose gear collapses on runway
An airport runway was shut after a Royal Malaysian Air Force CN-235 aircraft's nose gear collapsed during landing.
Authorities confirmed the incident occurred at around 11:30 am on Monday, June 23, in Kuching, Sarawak.
The plane had just completed a logistics flight from Labuan and Kota Kinabalu.
Footage shows emergency responders on the tarmac, working near the stranded military aircraft.
A report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A RMAF CN-235 sustained a partial landing gear collapse while landing at Kuching International Airport. There were no personal injuries.'
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) released a travel advisory after the incident.
The statement reads: 'Following an aircraft-related incident at 11:30 am today, the runway at Kuching International Airport (KIA) is currently closed to facilitate the removal of a Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) aircraft and subsequent runway clearing works.
'A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued, and the closure is expected to continue until 3 pm today. During this closure, all flight operations at KIA will be impacted.
'Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines. The airport will provide further updates once the runway is declared safe and open for flight operations by the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM).'
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mechanical issue and to review the safety protocols followed during the operation.
