US, Phoenix: Phoenix Police Lieutenant Rams Impaired Driver
Phoenix, United States - June 23, 2025 06/23/2025 12:30 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to the Phoenix police lieutenant at the scene, officers responded to multiple 911 callers reporting an impaired driver in a Honda near 44th Street and Thomas Road. The vehicle was reportedly driving erratically and striking other vehicles. A Phoenix Police lieutenant spotted the vehicle near 44th Street and Osborn Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield to the lieutenant's emergency lights and sirens. The driver then began driving into oncoming lanes of traffic and ran a red light. With the suspect's erratic driving behavior posing a direct threat to the public, the lieutenant utilized his patrol vehicle to ram the suspect's vehicle off the roadway at the intersection of 44th Street and Indianola Avenue. Officers quickly converged on the vehicle, and a high-risk traffic stop was initiated. The driver, an adult male, was taken into custody without further incident. Phoenix Fire crews responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation. No officers were injured. Per policy, PPD Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives will be taking command of the investigation due to the vehicular use of force. A hard closure was established for 44th Street while detectives conducted their investigation.
