Finnish murder and drug trafficking suspect caught in Thailand on Interpol notice
This is the dramatic moment a Finnish murder and drug trafficking suspect was arrested in Thailand on an Interpol Red Notice.
Daniel Reijo Karvonen was detained by undercover cops while working out at a condominium gym in the beach resort town of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Tuesday, June 24.
Police posed as fitness trainers to approach the Finnish fugitive. Upon verifying his identity, they revealed themselves as law enforcers and arrested him.
Footage shows cops escorting a baffled Daniel back to his room as he asked them: 'What's happened?'
Authorities said Daniel was wanted in Norway for a brutal murder in Kongsvinger in 2024. The tourist was also tagged in drug production and trafficking cases in the region, and was allegedly a key figure in transnational smuggling between Sweden and Norway.
Police Colonel Jiraphong Rujiradamrongchai, superintendent of the Immigration Division 3 investigation division, said: 'This operation was carried out in line with the order of the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, who instructed the police to crack down on transnational crimes.
‘This is to prevent and suppress foreigners who infiltrate and commit crimes that are a threat to the peace and security of the people and the country. We will carry this out seriously to maintain the image of the country and build confidence in law enforcement.'
Daniel was detained in police custody pending extradition to Norway.
