According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, crews responded to reports of an explosion at the complex around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a unit fully engulfed in flames and several residents who had already evacuated the building. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters conducted a search of the structure and discovered the body of an adult female inside the affected apartment. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives and arson investigators were called to the scene. As of now, the cause of the explosion remains undetermined. “We are in the early stages of our investigation,” said a spokesperson for the LASD. “Our detectives and arson team are working closely together to determine exactly what led to this tragic event.” Residents described the blast as sudden and frightening. “It felt like the whole building shook,” said one neighbor, who declined to be identified. “We ran out as fast as we could.” Officials have not released the identity of the deceased woman, pending notification of next of kin.
