Town authorities opened the fire hydrant for a 'community cool off' on Wednesday, turning the street into a splash zone that offered relief from the blistering heat.
The Town of Southern Pines said on its Facebook page: 'A big thank you to everyone who came out to beat the heat with us — we loved seeing our community come together for some cool summer fun!'
They added that more summer activities were being prepared.
