Phoenix, United States - June 27, 2025 06/27/2025 01:07 am GMT-0700 MESA, Ariz. – According to information gathered at the scene, a Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed, eastbound on the Red Mountain 202 near Gilbert Road. The Charger began to take off from the trooper, and a pursuit was initiated. The trooper eventually lost sight of the Charger near Lindsay Road, and the pursuit was terminated. Highway Patrol Traffic Operation Center (HPTOC) freeway camera operators reacquired a visual of the Charger as it exited at Higley Road. HPTOC reported that the Charger exited and drove South on Higley before crashing into the center median. DPS troopers responded to the location and located the unoccupied damaged Charger. A nearby witness reported to troopers that the suspect fled into a nearby parking lot of a Boeing manufacturing facility. The Mesa Police helicopter arrived overhead and began assisting in looking for the driver. A security guard at the Boeing facility directed troopers to the suspect, who was hiding underneath a pickup truck in the parking lot. Troopers surrounded the pickup where the suspect was hiding and began issuing commands to surrender. The suspect fled on foot and was pursued by troopers. A trooper deployed his taser on the suspect, causing him to collapse, before being taken into custody by troopers. Mesa Fire Department personnel responded to the location and evaluated the suspect for minor injuries sustained during the taser deployment.
