US: Police Pull Woman From Burning Car After Fiery Crash Ends Chase In Sacramento
Sacramento, United States - June 01, 2025 A high-speed police pursuit turned into a life-saving mission when officers pulled a woman from a burning car moments before it could explode. On June 1, a brief chase ended in flames near 35th Avenue and Freeport Boulevard, when the suspect, driving a vehicle tied to an armed carjacking, crashed through a chain-link fence and onto Sacramento Executive Airport property. “As soon as we saw the car on fire, it became more of a rescue mission,” said Officer Nicholas Duncan. The crash ignited dry grass, and flames quickly engulfed the vehicle. Officers could hear the driver trapped inside, screaming for help. “We heard someone inside screaming, screaming for help,” said Officer Riley Start. Officers Keegan Hironaka, Nicholas Duncan, and Riley Start scaled a fence, shattered a window, and pulled the woman out just as the fire intensified. “Initially, there was fire around the car, but as we made our approach, the hood of the car was on fire and getting bigger,” said Officer Hironaka. “We didn’t have a lot of time, and we moved as quickly as we could.” Body camera footage shows one officer yelling, “We have the sole occupant out, anyone else coming, we need fire extinguishers.” The growing fire and risk of a gas tank explosion heightened the urgency of the rescue. The driver suffered leg injuries and now faces charges related to the carjacking and pursuit. Despite praise, the officers insist they were simply doing their job.
