The three-day festival takes place each year in Dan Sai district, with dates set by local monks. Participants wear large, hand-painted masks made of bamboo and coconut shells, along with patchwork costumes decorated with bells and ribbons. The festival is based on a legend of spirits celebrating a prince’s return and combines Buddhist and local traditions with music, dancing, costumes, and rituals to honor spirits and bring the community together.
