This is the skin-crawling moment a giant 10-inch millipede was removed from a youngster's back.

A group of friends were watching TV together when the Philippine giant blue millipede fell from the ceiling in Bohol, Central Visayas.

Footage captured by Jia Baldesco shows Geo crouching on the ground while his friend Earl removes the arthropod from his back with a dustpan on June 14.

Meanwhile, Jia and one of their friends, Carmel, laugh in the background.

Jia said: We were in the living room when the millipede suddenly fell. It probably was outside and crawled up the wall since it was cool and rainy that time.'

The Philippine giant blue millipede is one of the largest millipedes in the country, reaching up to 25 centimetres in length. While its size can be alarming, it is harmless to humans.

The millipede is not venomous but may release a mild, irritating fluid as a defence, so it is advised to wash hands after contact.
