SIGN IN METRO READING INFO ABOUT SMOKING BAN PARIS, FRANCE - JULY 1: France has banned smoking in several outdoor public spaces, including beaches, parks, public gardens, bus shelters, sports facilities, and near schools, libraries, and swimming pools. The ban, initially planned for July 1, took effect a day earlier on June 29 after an official decree was published. Those who violate the restrictions will face a fine of 135 euros ($158). Smoking is still permitted on public benches unless they are located near restricted areas or marked with a "No Smoking" sign. The decision is part of France’s broader public health strategy, which includes raising tobacco prices, enforcing plain packaging, and tightening controls on e-cigarettes. The move follows similar steps in Spain, which recently expanded its smoking restrictions to include restaurant terraces and university campuses. Local authorities will be responsible for enforcing the new rules.
