A fire on the roof of a high-rise building in Germany triggered explosions near government offices.

The blaze broke out at the John Jahr Haus, a 17-storey tower under construction in central Berlin, on Monday morning, June 30.

Footage captured by resident Philipp Mochine shows thick black smoke billowing from the burning structure.

Philipp said: 'Explosions in the morning next to my building. I could not open up the window because it's smelly. But the fire is soon gone!'

Witnesses reported hearing at least three loud blasts, which officials believe were caused by gas cylinders at the construction site.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene. Roads around the area were closed, leading to significant traffic disruption.

Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries were reported. Construction workers were safely evacuated using an external elevator.

The John Jahr Haus, the tallest building on Kurfurstenstrasse, stands just 400 metres from key government buildings and the headquarters of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
