This is the dramatic moment a paraglider performed a safety drill simulating a canopy failure.

Ruswandi Adhi Pratama was conducting an incident simulation as part of a paragliding safety course in North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Footage shows the instructor pretending to flail and spin mid-air, as if struggling to control the glider around 5,000 ft above the ground.

He can be seen deliberately manipulating the white-and-blue canopy, resembling the movement of a jellyfish, as part of the exercise.

Moments later, he regained control and restored the parachute to full function before landing safely.

Ruswandi said: 'I was conducting an incident simulation training, in which the main parachute would be deliberately damaged and not deploy properly.'

Paragliding simulation training is important for teaching pilots how to stay calm and manage emergencies such as canopy failures, spins, and stalls.

Practising these scenarios in a safe setting helps build the confidence and reflexes needed to handle real-life incidents safely.
