Spain: Helicopter Teams Rescue Injured Cyclist And Canyoner In Dramatic Double Operation In Valencia
Xàtiva, Spain - June 30, 2025 Two daring rescues unfolded in a single morning as firefighters responded to separate accidents in the towns of Sumacàrcer and Anna. On June 30, emergency services from the Consorci Provincial de València sprang into action to save a cyclist and a canyoner, both injured while enjoying outdoor activities. The elite GERA (High-Altitude Rescue Group), supported by helicopter V-990 with a doctor on board, played a critical role in both operations. The first incident occurred at 9:45 a.m. in Sumacàrcer, where a 40-year-old cyclist fell and injured his leg. His mountain biking companions raised the alarm. Just over an hour later, at 11:07 a.m., a second call came in from Anna. A man had suffered a leg injury while canyoning. In both rescues, victims were stabilized on-site and airlifted to the Alzira helipad. From there, they were transferred to Generalitat Valenciana medical services for specialized treatment. These back-to-back missions highlight the vital importance of swift, well-coordinated emergency responses, especially in remote natural settings where access can be difficult and time is critical.
