This is the heartwarming moment firefighters rescue a monitor lizard stuck in a pipe.

The group of emergency workers split a metal pipe in half to retrieve a lizard in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand.

Footage shows the rescuers cutting through the long pipe to free the lizard, which is stuck three meters deep.

Moments later, they carefully pulled the creature out of the tube.

They successfully extracted the reptile and relocated it to a safer place.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
