A pet cat was rescued after leaping onto an iron spike during a storm in Thailand.

The two-year-old feline named Nang Ngam was spooked when she heard rumbling thunder during a monsoon storm in Chonburi on June 29.

She tried to leap over a metal fence but had her rear leg skewered by the spike.

Anchalee Chartwiset, 41, called animal rescuers upon hearing her pet's desperate cries.

Volunteers rushed to the scene, where they found the black-and-white cat dangling helplessly.

Vets were forced to sedate Nang Ngam, and the team used power tools to cut off the spike.

The feline was rushed to a local pet hospital for further treatment.

Anchalee said: 'I let her outside like I normally do, but today there was heavy wind and rain. I think she might have run to avoid the rain, but she jumped wrong, causing the iron to pierce her leg.

'I heard her cries and saw her hanging in mid-air. It was horrifying.'
