Chinese basketball sensation Zhang Ziyu stands at a remarkable 7 foot 4 (2.26 metres) has gone viral after footage shows her towering over opponents at the Chinese Women's Basketball warm-up series.

Since June 13, China has played two warm-up games each against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan, winning all four matches. Despite averaging less than 15 minutes of play per game, Zhang consistently scored around 16 points per game.

At 18, Zhang Ziyu is nearly 40 centimetres taller than her peers. This overwhelming height advantage has made her dominant on the court, with fans vividly dubbing her a “walking Eiffel Tower.”

According to the official website of the Chinese basketball team, Zhang is listed at 2.26 metres tall and weighs 110 kilograms — matching Yao Ming’s height. This makes her the tallest player in the history of Asian women's basketball. Notably, her height also surpasses that of the current Guinness World Record holder for "tallest living woman" — Turkey's Rumeysa Gelgi (2.15 metres). Many media outlets have exclaimed that Zhang Ziyu may have “accidentally set a new world record,” though an official Guinness title would still require formal measurement and application, likely to be completed in the next year or two.

Zhang Ziyu comes from a basketball family. Her father, Zhang Bin, was a key centre for the Shandong men’s team and is 2.13 metres tall; her mother, Yu Ying, is a former national women’s team player, standing at 1.98 metres. This background gave her both the genetics and environment to thrive in the sport. She showed exceptional height from an early age, starting basketball at age 8 and already reaching 2.11 metres by the end of elementary school.
