According to the Military Police, security forces are conducting simulated riot control exercises involving dogs, motorcycles, road clearance, aerial surveillance, and threat detection, with support from precision snipers. The broader summit security plan will also include participation from the armed forces. Approximately 17,000 civil and military police officers, along with agents from the Seguranca Presente (Present Security) Program, will be reinforcing security for the BRICS summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM). In addition to state forces and cutting-edge technology, Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro has requested the federal government deploy the Armed Forces for the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO) from July 2 to 9. The GLO will cover the external perimeter of MAM, Marina da Gloria, Estacio de Sa Monument, places where heads of state are staying, and other locations of interest to the government. The BRICS group, which initially included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, now has 11 members, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates. Vietnam recently became the 10th BRICS “partner country,” joining Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. The partner country category was formally introduced at the 16th BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024, as part of the bloc's expansion strategy.
