A Buddhist temple with a model train above its entrance has become a local tourist attraction in Thailand.

Footage shows a steam locomotive statue perched on the entryway of the Wat Saphan Khlong Toei in Bangkok.

Flags could be seen waving in the wind near the main gate.

The model train honours the area's railway heritage and the community's strong ties to the nearby Khlong Toei Railway Station. It symbolizes the vital role trains have played in the neighbourhood's history and daily life.

Railways were introduced to Thailand in 1893 under King Chulalongkorn, influenced by Western technology from Britain and France.

The first railway line connected Bangkok to Ayutthaya, helps to modernize the country and improve trade and communication. This development was part of King Chulalongkorn's broader efforts to strengthen Siam and protect it from colonial powers by adopting Western innovations.
