Dingwall, United Kingdom - June 15, 2025 Network Rail has issued an urgent safety warning after CCTV captured multiple incidents of people trespassing on a railway bridge in Dingwall. The bridge is used as a dangerous shortcut. Trespassers, including older people and dog walkers, were seen on the tracks where trains pass at speeds up to 65mph. This speed allows a train to cover 50 meters in less than two seconds, making it deadly. Network Rail is working with British Transport Police to identify those caught on camera. Trespassing is illegal and carries the risk of prosecution and hefty fines.Innis Keith, Network Rail Scotland’s safety director, called the footage “deeply concerning.” He urged people to avoid the bridge, as trains cannot stop quickly or swerve to avoid collisions. To address the issue, Network Rail is collaborating with Highland Council to explore building two wooden footbridges on either side of the railway. These would provide a safe alternative for pedestrians. A new video from Network Rail’s “You vs Train” campaign features an NHS trauma specialist explaining the severe injuries caused by train collisions. The campaign aims to change attitudes and reduce incidents. Keith added that while people may want to save time, using the railway bridge is reckless and against the law. He asked everyone to choose safety over convenience.
