ONGOING FIREFIGHTING EFFORTS IN REGIONIZMIR, TÜRKİYE - JULY 2: Aerial and ground crews are battling forest fires that broke out Wednesday, July 2, in the Cesme and Odemis districts of Izmir, a province in Türkiye’s Aegean region. In Cesme’s Ildir neighborhood, a fire that began in agricultural land spread to a nearby forest area due to strong winds. Five planes, 18 helicopters, numerous fire trucks, and heavy machinery were dispatched to the scene. Ildir, Germiyan, and Nohutalan — a neighborhood in the Urla district — were evacuated as a precaution. In Odemis’s Tosunlar neighborhood, a forest fire broke out in the Manastir area and quickly spread to nearby Sucikti neighborhood. Both Tosunlar and Sucikti were evacuated for safety, and some homes in Tosunlar sustained damage. Efforts to bring both fires under control are ongoing.
