Panicked residents fled a building as an earthquake struck Myanmar today.

Footage shows schoolchildren spilling out onto the streets after the magnitude 4.4 shook their school in Mandalay at 7:10 am local time on July 3.

Terrified pupil Wang Gen Xiang said: 'We had to get up and evacuate while studying.'

The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck 19 kilometres northeast of Myingyan at a depth of 17.2 kilometres.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties. Residents, still on edge from the previous tragedy, fled from buildings.

On March 28, a powerful magnitude 7.7 quake struck Myanmar. Up to 5,352 people in Myanmar and 103 in Thailand were killed and many more were injured.
