Four-year-old twins have lavish wedding for 'good luck' in Thailand
Four-year-old Thai twins were married in a lavish symbolic wedding meant to bring good fortune and prosperity.
Thatsanaporn Sornchai and his sister Thatsathorn were wed in the ceremony at the Prachaya Resort in Kalasin, Thailand, on June 28.
The lively celebration started with a food offering to the local Buddhist monks before the family held a traditional dowry procession in which they offered four million baht and 180 baht-weight gold to the bride.
Footage shows the twins being marked on their foreheads as they performed a flower garland exchange.
Their mother, Jongkon Sonchai, said: 'The twins were born on June 14. They're four years old now, and since they were both born on the 14th, we decided to hold the wedding on the 28th, combining the dates.'
Thai Buddhists believe that opposite-sex twins used to be lovers in their past lives but were unable to marry - either through death, forced separation or relationship problems.
They also believe that the children must marry each other or be haunted by bad luck, sickness and accidents in their current life.
The practice, passed down through generations, is believed to bring harmony and longevity to the twins' lives. However, the marriage is not legally binding and is only done for ceremonial purposes.
