This is the shocking moment a motorcyclist crashed into an oncoming car on a narrow road.

The rider reportedly fell asleep as he was driving along the motorway in Surat Thani, Thailand, on June 19.

Dashcam footage shows him driving on the wrong lane before slamming head-on into an oncoming car. He was flung off his vehicle, and smashed his head onto the car bonnet.

Car driver Sitthinon was heard screaming in shock as the rider immediately jumped off the motorcycle, limping away in pain.

The motorcyclist then crumpled by the roadside, holding his arm as Sitthinon stepped out to check on him.

Sitthinon said: 'The rider fell asleep while riding and was unable to swerve away. I couldn't engage my brake in time. He's okay and only suffered a minor hand injury.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
