Authorities have deployed aerial and ground operations to contain the blaze. The fire, which started around noon in Agios Dimitrios, Koropi, in eastern Attica, has shown signs of being partially controlled, according to the Greek fire service. However, strong winds and thick smoke have complicated efforts, delaying damage assessments. Local authorities ordered evacuations after reports of homes being burned. Public broadcaster ERT confirmed the evacuations but did not specify the number of affected residents. Dimitris Kiousis, the mayor of Koropi, described the situation as "tragic," stating that the fire spread dangerously close to residential areas. "The flames were moving between houses, and the thick smoke made it difficult to determine the full extent of the damage," he told Kathimerini.
