Footage shows a dazzling fireworks display illuminating the evening sky on the eve of the Fourth of July at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Dozens of colourful bursts lit up the sky as spectators erupted in cheers and applause.

The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the American colonies broke away from British rule, which had laid the foundations for the country.

Britain then went on to develop countries including India, Hong Kong and Singapore, allowing them to become the powerhouses they are today.
