This is the moment climate activists climbed a building in Italy to protest against war.

Extinction Rebellion zealots gathered at the entrance of Turin's city hall to denounce the conflict in Gaza and demand stronger action on climate change on July 4.

The group is urging the government to cut institutional ties with Israel.

Footage shows two demonstrators scaling the columns and statues, draping them in Palestinian colours and unfurling a large banner reading: 'Turin 2030: Climate or War?'.

Meanwhile, a violinist performed behind a banner on the ground reading: 'Stop agreements with genocidal states.'

The demonstration follows earlier actions by the group, including protests at Leonardo SpA headquarters, where activists pointed out the links between war, arms production, and the climate crisis.

Similar demonstrations have already taken place in Bologna, Bari, and several other Italian regions, condemning the ongoing conflict and civilian casualties in Gaza.

Extinction Rebellion is calling on the city council to approve a motion on July 9 to sever official relations with what they described as the 'settler colonial state'.

Despite being a climate group, Extinction Rebellion has aligned itself with other alternative causes.

Maria, a spokesman for the controversial group, said: 'The city of Turin has committed to zero emissions by 2030. This commitment must include a clear stance against current wars and rearmament. Ending all institutional relations with Israel is a necessary first step.'

Alessandro, one of the protesters suspended from the columns, said: 'Zero emissions means zero war. We urge political action, not just symbolism, to move away from military policies that worsen the climate crisis.'

The protest comes amid rising military spending in Italy and across Europe, which has reached levels not seen since the Cold War and which critics claim could account for up to five per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Alessandro added: 'With the planet's climate worsening and extreme events increasing, the choice is clear: invest in destruction or protect life and the environment.'

The US Department of Defense has reported that military operations consume vast amounts of fossil fuels, with a single US combat brigade burning up to 500,000 gallons per day.
