Shortly after 1pm this afternoon a group of around 30 people holding placards showing support for Palestine Action gathered around the Gandhi statue in Parliament Square, as the ban came into force after mindnight last night (July 5).

The placards written with the words, 'I opposed genocide. I support Palestine Action,' were held up until police officers arrived un vans and made arrests for the support of a proscribed organisation.

Palestine Action which targeted firms linked to the Isreali military was banned by the UK government, following a failed legal bid to temporarily halt its proscription.

Support of what is now classified as a terrorist organisation is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
