Lion transferred from Germany arrive at safari park in England
This is the moment a lion transferred from Germany arrived at a safari park in England.
Lonka, the 10-year-old male African lion, made it to his new home at Woburn Safari Park in England.
The big cat was transported from Serengeti Park in Germany to Woburn on July 2.
His journey was delayed due to a pause in international animal transfers following the global pandemic, but his arrival comes after months of careful planning by the park's dedicated team.
Footage shows staff carefully lowering Lonka's cage into his new enclosure.
Since arriving, Lonka has been exploring his surroundings, scent-marking his territory, and letting out deep, resonant roars in the Kingdom of the Carnivores.
His striking dark mane and commanding presence have already impressed keepers and visitors alike.
Ben Davies, Head of Carnivores, said: 'Male lions play a vital role as the heart of the pride, and we're delighted to welcome Lonka to Woburn.
'He's a confident and impressive individual, and we're hopeful he'll soon take his place as king of the pride here at Woburn Safari Park.'
Plans are underway to introduce Lonka to 10-year-old lioness Zuri, a seasoned mother known for her strong maternal instincts.
With African lions classified as ‘Vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List, a potential breeding partnership could be important for conservation efforts.
Visitors this summer will have the chance to watch the new lion king settle into his Bedfordshire home.
