China: China reports rapid growth in green electricity trading
Storyline: China reports rapid growth in green electricity trading [Voice_over] China's green electricity trading volume surpassed 220 billion kilowatt-hours in the first five months this year, recent data from the China Electricity Council shows. The figure represents a more than 50 percent increase in trading volume from the same period last year. China's green energy trading volume accounts for over 55 percent of the country's total renewable energy power generation. With the steady rise in capacity and output, renewable energy is playing a crucial role in the country's electricity market. [Sound_bite] Pan Yuelong, chairman of supervisory board, China Electricity Council: "Currently, China's market-oriented electricity trading volume has exceeded six trillion kilowatt-hours every year, accounting for more than 60 percent of the total electricity consumption in the society. We can see the allocation of electricity resources has achieved an important market-oriented transformation. We are accelerating the pace of electricity marketization." [Voice_over] Data from the CEC shows that the country's market-oriented electricity trading volume surged from 1.1 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2016 to 6.2 trillion in 2024.
