An out-of-control lorry rammed a car off a bridge and smashed into multiple vehicles in Brazil.

Footage shows the lorry approaching a busy bridge with several vehicles ahead on the BR-116 road near the city of Candido Sales, Bahia, on June 26.

The driver then zagged onto the opposite side of the road and swerved back in an attempt to avoid an oncoming lorry.

However, the vehicle struck a passenger car, causing it to veer off the bridge and into the treetops beside the road.

The lorry continued down the road, weaving through traffic, shedding its cargo, and colliding with other vehicles before disappearing from view.

Five occupants of the car, including a child, were injured and taken to hospital.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the crash was caused by brake failure, and the accident resulted in the road being closed for approximately two hours.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
