Locals surround shirtless tourist after car crash in Bali
This is the dramatic moment angry locals surrounded a shirtless tourist after a car crash in Bali.
American holidaymakers Khalhil Faryt and Rodriguez Chaves Suendys were chased by residents following multiple vehicular collisions in Gianyar, Indonesia.
Local media reported that the pair, aboard a black Toyota Raize, had hit Desca Rio Aditya, 21, who was driving his Honda Vario on July 4.
The impact caused Desca to smash into the rear window of the couple's rented vehicle.
Instead of stepping out of the hatchback, Rodriguez fled the scene and accelerated down the road in an attempt to escape.
Eyewitnesses Bagus Raiddison Kolimon and Kadek Suyastra said the foreigner also grazed other road users and damaged several public facilities along the way.
This prompted enraged motorists to follow them for over 12 kilometres until they were cornered in front of the Banjar Manyar petrol station in Ketewel Village.
Locals reportedly assaulted the tourists and attempted to destroy the car in retaliation before officers from Pos Zebra Ketewel intervened and secured the pair.
Police Inspector Adjunct Gusti Ngurah Suardita said: 'Both of them panicked and chose to flee after the collision, until finally they were stopped by residents in Ketewel and immediately secured by the officers.'
Footage captured by Hadi Putra Bali shows Rodriguez inside the wrecked vehicle while Khalhil stands outside the car, conversing with furious motorists.
Police reported that no one was injured in the incident.
The estimated losses from the crash amounted to 100 million IDR (5,000 GBP) in car damage and 300,000 IDR (15 GBP) for the motorcycle.
Both parties reportedly agreed to settle the case, and the foreigners pledged to fully compensate for all damages.
The two tourists remain under police supervision pending further investigation.
