Climate crazies attack Apple store in New York for 'climate betrayal'
Environmental extremists stormed an Apple store in New York, denouncing the company for what they called a 'climate betrayal'.
Activists from Extinction Rebellion NYC attacked the tech giant's Fifth Avenue flagship store on Sunday morning, July 6.
The group spray-painted messages on the glass entrance, including slogans such as 'Boycott' and 'Tim + Trump = Toxic'. One protester was arrested at the scene.
Demonstrators criticised Apple, Google, and Meta for their alleged backtracking on previous climate commitments, particularly in light of their reported attendance at Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration.
Extinction Rebellion spokesman Miles Grant said: 'In 2023, Tim Cook called combating climate change one of the most urgent priorities of our time. Fast forward to 2025, and he's donating to Trump, the man leading the charge to roll back all climate progress. They've betrayed their customers and the planet at the most critical moment in human history.'
Activists also condemned the tech industry's contribution to rising carbon emissions, pointing to the energy consumption of AI data centres.
They highlighted Google's greenhouse gas emissions, which have reportedly risen by more than 50 per cent since 2019.
Extinction Rebellion NYC urged the public to boycott tech companies they say are supporting fossil fuels and authoritarianism.
