Floodwater inundates hospital as heavy rain batters Indonesia
Floodwaters inundated a hospital in Indonesia, forcing the evacuation of patients and staff.
Footage shows the ground floor of the medical facility in Bogor, West Java, heavily flooded on Monday, July 7.
Several vehicles were also seen cautiously navigating through the deluge outside the building.
Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Bogor Regency, M. Adam Hamdani, said water began entering the structure around 9:30 pm local time.
Adam added: 'Patients on the first floor of Permata Jonggol Hospital, totalling 16 people, were moved to the second floor.'
Authorities said the flooding was caused by the overflow of the Cibarengkok and Cikarang Rivers, which could no longer handle the continuous heavy rain.
Water began to recede around 2 am. No casualties were reported.
The official added: 'The water level in the first-floor room is around 20 cm. Meanwhile, the yard and parking area were flooded with up to 70 cm.'
Indonesia and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
