A massive wildfire near Marseille, France, has turned the sky into a scene from an apocalypse, as documented by Harry Zwaig in a video posted to X. The footage shows thick, dark smoke clouds blanketing the city, ash falling from the sky, and the sun barely visible—underscoring the intensity of the blaze.

The fire began in Les Pennes-Mirabeau on July 8, 2025, and rapidly spread towards Marseille, prompting authorities to shut down Marseille Airport and evacuate nearby residential areas. By afternoon, the fire had scorched at least 350 hectares, with 168 firefighters and numerous emergency resources deployed in response.

This is one of several wildfire incidents across southern France in recent weeks, fueled by an ongoing heatwave and prolonged dry conditions. Officials say the frequency and scale of such fires are intensifying, reflecting the growing impact of climate change on the region.
