Los Angeles, United States - July 08, 2025 07/08/2025 02:00 pm GMT-0700 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A fast-moving brush fire erupted near Interstate 5 and Newhall Ranch Road Tuesday afternoon, blackening more than 40 acres of hillside before firefighters were able to bring it under control. Dubbed the "Bert Fire," the blaze was first spotted by a passing Los Angeles County Fire Department unit just before 2 p.m. in the dry hills south of the Pitchess Detention Center. Flames quickly spread through parched vegetation, prompting a large-scale response from both air and ground units. Helicopters, helitankers, and fixed-wing aircraft were deployed to drop water and fire retardant, while ground crews worked to cut fire lines and protect surrounding areas. Firefighters managed to stop the fire’s forward progress around 4:05 p.m., successfully securing the active flanks and connecting containment lines. No structures were reported threatened, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
