Retired sailor builds three-storey shaped like giant yacht to beat land sickness
Footage captures a stunning three-storey house that a retired sailor built to resemble a giant yacht, so he would not get land sick.
The striking structure features curved white walls and a deck-like rooftop, giving the impression of a luxury vessel anchored onshore in the village of Hoa Tinh in Vinh Long, Vietnam.
The house belongs to Cao Van Nam, a former sailor who spent his life at sea. Now retired, Nam says the home is a tribute to his life on the water.
It also helps him to avoid land sickness, a medical condion known as Mal de Terre or Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) often experienced by seamen.
Nam added: 'My house has one living room, a library, a kitchen, and seven bedrooms. In the past, I was a sailor.
'Now that I'm old and have returned to the garden, I miss that time. I wanted to build a house like a boat to remember those days at sea.'
Construction on the yacht-inspired home began in 2019 and was completed in 2021.
The house measures approximately 100ft long and 37ft wide, and it stands over water, further enhancing the maritime illusion.
Nam has also opened the doors of his unique home to the public, welcoming visitors who wish to experience the one-of-a-kind creation up close.
