A missing tin miner was found dead after being attacked by a crcodile in Indonesia.

Febry Yansah, 19, was repairing his boat on the edge of the Pelaben River when the beast lunged from the water in Bangka Regency on the evening of July 2.

The lad, a tin miner on the Bangka Belitung islands known for rich tin deposits, had no time to react as the leviathan clamped down on his body and dragged him under.

Authorities launched a search after other miners rushed back to the village to report the incident.

They spent two days scouring the croc-infested river before locating Febry's corpse on Friday, July 4.

The body was found with parts missing near a tin mining pit in the river.

I Mada Oka Astawa, head of the Pangkalpinang search and rescue office, said: 'The search for the victim, who was dragged away by a crocodile, finally ended after three days. Sadly, he was found dead.

'When his body was found, it was no longer intact. We then took him to his family's home in Baturusa Village. With his discovery, the operation has been officially closed.'

Officials said the teen was repairing tin mining equipment when the crocodile pounced on him. The killer croc has not been found.

The Indonesian archipelago is home to 14 types of crocs - with a large population of extremely large and violent estuarine crocodiles that flourish in the region's climate.

Conservationists believe that crocodiles have been driven further inland closer to villages due to overfishing reducing the crocodiles' natural food supplies combined with habitat loss from the development of coastal areas into farms.

Widespread tin mining has also caused villagers to encroach on the crocodiles' natural habitats, pushing the creatures closer toward people's homes.

With uneducated locals in the developing country still using rivers for bathing and primitive fishing, the deadly combination of factors has led to rising numbers of crocodile attacks.
