A mischievous pet poodle swallowed a gold bracelet he mistook for a treat.

The four-year-old black toy dog named Hug Jung discovered the 16g piece of jewellery left on a dining table while his owner stepped away to wash her hands.

He chewed it and snapped it into several pieces.

Shortly after, Hug Jung was found looking bloated in the kitchen, surrounded by chunks of gold with bite marks on July 3.

Footage shows the canine sitting uneasily, appearing as if he might throw up at the home in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand.

He was immediately taken to the vet, where medics administered laxatives to help him pass the remaining gold safely.

Pet owner Supaluck Chotiyawetchawa said: ‘I thought it was missing until I noticed broken bits near Hug Jung. I could not believe he had the strength to chew through it.'

Veterinarians assured Supaluck the pieces were not sharp and would pass naturally.

She said: ‘I was not angry. I just felt scared he might be hurt. He means everything to me.'

The following day, Hug Jung returned for a follow-up with the doctors. Supaluck brought his stool in a bag, which was examined to recover the swallowed gold.

Supaluck added: ‘Despite losing my favourite accessory, my dog's safety is priceless. The bracelet can be replaced.'
