US: Children Rescued From Locked Hot Car After Officers Smash Window In Cobb County
United States - June 04, 2025 New bodycam footage shows the urgent rescue of two children trapped in a locked car at the Cumberland Mall parking lot on June 4. Police arrived just after 1 p.m. and quickly decided to break the window. One officer asked, “You want me to break it, or you got it?” before smashing the glass open. The children were found strapped in seatbelts and appeared very lethargic. An officer comforted one child, saying, “It’s OK, baby. Oh, you’re hot.” Both kids were safely removed from the vehicle as officers worked fast in the extreme heat. According to police, the temperature inside the car had reached 117 degrees. They say the children were left inside for 41 minutes while the outside temperature was around 80 degrees. About 35 minutes after the rescue, officers walked J’quawn Dixon to a police vehicle. He was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree child cruelty. An officer at the scene said, “They have footage of him getting out, and he left the car at 12:24.” 911 calls from bystanders alerted police to the situation. One caller said, “There are two children in a car by themselves, small kids crying… The windows are cracked, but I don’t think that’s right.” The children’s cries were audible on the call. The caller reassured them, saying, “Hi, honey, it’s OK. You’re OK.” Cobb County police credited those calls with making the difference in saving the children.
